NiCD, NiCad - Nickel Cadmium BatteriesAvailable since the early 1960's Nickel Cadmium rechargeable batteries (NiCD or NiCad) are robust and relatively inexpensive. They are typically used where long life, high power and extended temperature range are important. However, their potential for voltage depression ("memory effect") and the fact that they contain toxic cadmium (which requires recycling) have made them less popular.
